New job. Day one. 😀 I’ve already found my new New job. Day one. 😀 I’ve already found my new work happy place 😁. I did a lot more than taking a peek at the roof. And I learned that I ain’t neva wearing heels to work again. 😂
And it's been hot as hell outside...Hell inside a And it's been hot as hell outside...Hell inside a steam room...With everyone wearing gasoline drawers.

It's hot.

Where's the ice cream?

Oh, I had a first the other day...when it was also hot as hell...and everyone had on gasoline shoes and anklets.

For the first time in ever, Chick-Fil-A said they ran out of ice cream. Well I NEVER!

Literally. I never had heard of this until a couple of days ago.

The other fast food joints (Burger King and McDonalds will remain nameless 😜), had run out before. The third I didn't even bother to try. Their ice cream machine catches the break-downs in the middle of winter at 12 midnight.

What's the point of this story? *shrug* Surprises happen.

I anticipate Chick-Fil-A will never run out of lemonade or sweet tea, though. That would surprise me more than them running out of ice cream, 😆!

These (wonderful) People

Lemee tell you somethin’ about my high school classmates:

These People are kind.
These People are full of love.
These People are some of THE most hilarious humans I know! And they don’t even try!
These People are intelligent.
These People are creative.
These People are accomplished.
These People are community-minded.
These People love their families.
These are only a few of the wonderful things I can say about These Lovely People.
I can’t even begin to describe what a refreshing I can’t even begin to describe what a refreshing joy it was to sit with, laugh, hug, dine, reminisce (and sing karaoke) with my dear high school classmates last weekend. I’m back in the DMV area, and I miss them already!
I’ve always wanted to utter a few words of Biggi I’ve always wanted to utter a few words of Biggie’s Juicy during karaoke. 🤣🤣 This was so much fun! My classmates from high school are the best!!!! 😆😆

This moment of joy! My dear @stizztrendin @stizz_i This moment of joy! My dear @stizztrendin @stizz_isuals introduced me to Jikyren and her other friend, @daartystt, when the pandemic was starting. We were all on edge, uncertain and plain old scared.

They would have Bible study and pray with each other, and my niece called me several evenings to talk and pray with them. Totally my pleasure. I’m just grateful she sees me as that type of Auntie, because I still retain active cuss words in my vocabulary. 😄

This moment of joy! My first time meeting Jikyren in person! Looking forward to meeting @daartystt in person as well!

(It’s such a badge of honor…when my niece’s friends and the children of my longtime pals call me “Aunt Liz” 😊. I love it!)

And yes, I’m that Aunt who gently pinches face cheeks.

They include the “Anti-Yoke Church”, the Big House, Blacksmith’s workplace, overseer’s house and slave driver’s quarters, slave cabins—some are original to the plantation while others were brought in from other locations. Other stops include the kitchen, the plantation jail, information on sugar production complete with several giant kettles used to boil and reduce sugar cane juice until it crystallized. Per the tour, it took boiling down in four different kettles before crystallization started. Another product—molasses—also was produced during this sugar-making process. Molasses was yielded during the third boil. (The enslaved were kept busy year round because the plantation’s main crops were sugar cane and rice). There was also information about storms that ravaged the area and caused damage to some of the buildings at the plantation. And, since this heritage conservation is about the past and present, there’s also information about climate change and other threats to maintaining the preservation of this sad 😞 piece of history.

The actual length depends on how much time you take to read the signs and exhibits, peruse the buildings, rest on the benches, contemplate the information you’re taking in. And the amount of time you spend drinking water. 😄
- [ ] Water—bring plenty of it. 💦💦We took our tour on Juneteenth, and it was hot and humid! You will sweat. You will glisten. Oh, also keep in mind the only restrooms are in the visitor’s center.
- [ ] Heat—see above, and bring a shady hat.
- [ ] Shoes—make sure they’re comfy. Enclosed shoes recommended—but that’s my opinion. My sister @lelelovejones recommended some sort of walking shoes or sneakers to a family who drove up near closing time and asked us our opinion of the tour. The pathways through the plantation are not paved. Plenty of pebbles and dust. Make sure shoes are comfy. Saying that twice for emphasis. #whitneyplantation

First Mothers Day without her. I miss her so! Me First Mothers Day without her.
I miss her so!
Memories of her are pleasant and bring comfort, however, the vacancy is still profound…still indescribable.
Might sound childish for a good-and-grown woman to say…but I don’t care.
I want my mommy.

Mommy belongs to the ages, to the ancestors, to 2021, and rests in God.
The most beautiful human I’ve ever known…and I am blessed to know lots of awesome people…but she tops that list.

Blessed, indeed.
